Report of the African Children’s Forum – 30th Anniversary of MAEJT

The 30th Anniversary of MAEJT, held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from October 28 to November 2, 2024, marked a milestone in the movement’s history. This historic gathering at the African Union Headquarters was the first of its kind for a child-led movement, signaling the increasing recognition of MAEJT's role in child protection, advocacy, and youth empowerment.

After 30 years of existence and actions aimed at empowering and structurally transforming children and young people, it is important to take stock to appraise progress made as well as possible challenges encountered. It is also important to assess the participation of children and young people in building communities that protect children's rights, and to hear their voices on their development aspirations, with a view to future generations.
